Push The Potential

men

one. beauty is abstract. It takes a lot to make a beautiful man.

two. it smells like confidence and looks like comfort.

three. the safety of a blanket.

four. a good composition of character traits.

Interestingly….

I found it hard to define what a true and beautiful man is. I, like many people in this world, can probably define what a man is not but not what a man is. After several seconds of letting the question land, I can define what a true man is sand he is not a man of conventional definition. The first man that comes to mind is my dad. My dad isn’t perfect but he’s the only one that comes the closest in my life.

What makes him a man? He’s able to be a warrior but also vulnerable at the same time. There’s a fine balance between the two. He protects his family and his land but also knows and admits when he’s wrong. He lives by his integrity and will anything for his children.

He didn’t come out of the womb like that though. He went to war and was held in concentration camps for many years. I think the trauma broke him down in way I may never know of. But he’s still able to stand and be in his power and not let his ego mask his humanity.

I think it takes time for a man to be a man. In some ways I think men need more care and more love than women. But I also thnk men need to go out on their own to find their own definition to be one. Being a man is definitely not hereditiy and many die without becoming a man. It takes courage and strength to being a true and beautiful man. It may not be valued and honored in today’s society but a woman knows when they have a man on their arms and when they don’t.

Beautiful

What I find beautiful in a man is his sense of generosity and respect (including self-respect!) — this is true no matter the gender, but for men especially, a strong sense of self-awareness and compassion for community/friends/relationships is important and admirable.

Also, you should check out Quiet Productions: they are an arts organization (including visual art/theater/ etc) and the work they are doing this season involves community and gender. They asked similar questions of the staff, volunteers, community involved and tried to implement those answers in the art they’re producing. Check them out http://quietonline.org/

What is beautiful to me?

Mentally: Men who are beautiful to me exert a sense of confidence that I wish I had. They are charming, funny, and intelligent. Hopefully they can drink on my pace, but if not it it not really that big of a deal. They should be well read, or at least well studied. They should be passionate about something and aware of what’s around them.

Physically- Definitely have a week spot for furry guys. Mediterranean, Jews, and Scotsmen to the front of the line. I like men with harsher features, usually sunken eyes or bigger noses or nice jaw lines. I like kind eyes because it makes me feel protected. Beards are a must. I generally prefer men that are a little larger than me but not too large; a stocky build rather than overweight.
